More Information about Wound Care

14 September 2014, Singapore: A family member of mine has been battling with serious surgery wound infection and inflammation since August 2014. She was hospitalized for 2 weeks and the doctors give her large quantity of antibiotics.

After being discharged from hospital for nearly one month - her doctor still refuse to gave her any medication on her inflammation. She was very curious why her doctors did not gave her any medication on her inflammation and focus only on controlling her wounds infections.

I was also curious and started to 'google' for more information. I got the answer I wanted from this website http://firstaidtraining.com.sg/web/what-to-do-for-wound-care/

Here is a section of article extracted from Singapore First Training Centre website

4. Self care Suggestions

Self-care suggestions for slow-healing wounds include:

Do not take drugs that interfere with the body’s natural healing process if possible. For example, anti-inflammatory drugs (such as over-the-counter aspirin) will hamper the action of immune system cells. Ask your doctor for a list of medicines to avoid in the short term.

Make sure to eat properly. Your body needs good food to fuel the healing process.

Include foods rich in vitamin C in your diet. The body needs vitamin C to make collagen. Fresh fruits and vegetables eaten daily will also supply your body with other nutrients essential to wound healing such as vitamin A, copper and zinc. It may help to supplement your diet with extra vitamin C.

Keep your wound dressed. Wounds heal faster if they are kept warm. Try to be quick when changing dressings. Exposing a wound to the open air can drop its temperature and may slow healing for a few hours.

Don’t use antiseptic creams, washes or sprays on a chronic wound. These preparations are poisonous to the cells involved in wound repair.

Have regular exercise because it increases blood flow, improves general health and speeds wound healing. Ask your doctor for suggestions on appropriate exercise.

Do not smoke.

METFORMIN for Diabetic

07 September 2014, Singapore: Back in early 2013, my doctor issued me 6 months of supply for Metformin. During that time, I was not diagnosed with diabetic. I just recover from high fever due to bad liver condition. I was hospitalized for about 4 days. The doctor told me that I needed to lost weight from 80kg to 70kg as I got fatty liver and my sugar level in my blood were few points above the normal scale. I told him that I love to eat rice or carbohydrate stuff (e.g., potato, bread, etc.). He told me that Metformin was safe and will help me reduce my sugar level but it was still an experiment drug in Singapore.

I decided to goggle about it .... wow! drugs are scary stuff ... if I knew what the side effects were ... I would have stop long time ago. I just finish my last tablet in August 2014.

My question is ... why did the doctor prescript to me when I was hospitalized due to high fever caused by my fatty liver condition?.
